I think Dan Lett completely missed the canoe with his column today, Tories Have Done A Disappearing Act. In short, Lett criticizes McFadyen and company for being quiet since last May’s election. Hardly any news releases, no updates to the website, little media coverage, and so on.
Is it really that uncommon for a party to lay low for a bit after getting its ass kicked? Especially during the summer, when few Manitobans are paying any attention to politics? It seems to me this time is much better spent licking wounds, recharging batteries and mending fences rather than hosing down sweaty reporters in the press gallery at the Leg.
Heck, at least the PCs still have a website, whereas the provincial NDP site has all but completely disappeared, replaced with a “Returning with a new web site this fall” message. How very 1997 of them. Where’s the clip art of the guy in the construction hat?
And speaking of disappearing acts, what happened to the Premier? Other than the gratuitous appearance at the Milt Stegall ceremony, and the laughable photo opp of him jogging in his best Wolverines out in New Brunswick, our fearless leader seems to have gone fishing all summer
I can only hope the turning of the leaves will bring some renewed energy from both of our major provincial political figures. That’s right Gary and Hugh, it’s time to dance!

The greatest difference between the state of the PCs and the NDP is the PCs need a strong presence.
Mcfayden made a HUGE mistake in the last election by keeping a low profile prior to the election and by not letting the electorate know what his position and policies were prior to the election. He looked weak and reactionary.
Doer is retiring and does not need a high(er) profile whereas Mcfayden needs to constantly build his profile to build up his image.
