Dear Premier Doer,
Later this afternoon, federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty is going to offer you a bunch of money in exchange for harmonizing the PST with the GST. Do us all a favour, and take it.
Yes I know you’re concerned about the impact this might have on consumers, but don’t worry, Jim is going to cut the GST by one point at the same time, so consumers won’t feel the pinch. In fact, they’ll benefit from lower prices in the not too distant future.
And the business sector — you know, those people who employ all the consumers? — is going to have all sorts of incentive to increase productivity and reinvest in their operations.
On top of all that, you’ll have several hundred million dollars to play with, which should be fun.
So please Gary, take the money.
Sincerely,
PolicyFrog
P.S. Hey Gary, if you need some more convincing, check out this article from the Globe & Mail or this one from the Financial Post. “The smartest economic policy of the decade,” sounds pretty good, no?
