From today’s Free Press:
Parks expert says power line built east of lake not an issue
A power line around the boreal forest wouldn’t scuttle Manitoba’s chances of creating a UNESCO site, said the former president of the agency’s world heritage committee.
For the love of God, just reverse your position already Gary! What’s the worst that’s going to happen, McFadyen and Company are going to say “told you so” for a few months? Is it really worth blowing a half-billion dollars to avoid having someone say you’re wrong? Far, faaaaaaar more people would be impressed by your ability to say “we were wrong, and we’re going to correct this.”

Good post. I just wrote a letter to the Premier imploring him to reconsider.

The problem with your argument is that the Doer government operates with a bottomless well of money. They more they spend, the more they take from the other provinces, or from the Fiscal Stabilization Fund, or from Hydro. So you see, from Doer’s point of view, saving half a billion dollars is well worth it if it saves him from having to negotiate with Indians.
