By almost all accounts, Minto MLA Andrew Swan is one of the smartest and most capable members of the provincial NDP caucus, and more qualified for a cabinet spot than half the ministers already in there. His appointment yesterday to the Competitiveness, Training and Trade post was deserved and long overdue.
However, the ‘outraged’ Tories and Liberals would have you believe this spot would be better filled by a man who was a complete disaster during his previous turn in cabinet (Caldwell), a raw rookie (Marcelino) or a guy who’s only discernible qualificiation is his ethnicity (Jha).
Look, I’m more than happy to point out when the Premier does something dumb. Like his decision today to give $1.5 million to the group of rich people trying to build an overpriced park at Upper Fort Garry. That was stupid.
But for the opposition parties to feign indignation when Doer actually makes the right move is…well, it’s par for the course really, but it’s also dishonest. Stop playing the petty games boys, and try to concentrate on issues of substance. Hey Hugh and Jon, where do you stand on Upper Fort Garry?

No, the stupid part is that the real issue has to do with why millions of $$$ of tax payer money was spent on creating ‘The Forks’, and something about ‘not being able to see the forest for the trees’.
If Doer wants to give the friends of UFG money out of his own pocket, I’m cool with that. He shouldn’t be using government money as a personal slush fund.
once again the provincial government kicks a private enterprise in the nads.
I like the Forks. There’s so much to do!
