Sometimes I wonder if the collective brain power at City Hall could power a very, very dim light bulb. Even one of those compact fluorescents.
News today that Councillor Dan Vandal has the support of six other councillors in his bid to derail new downtown residential development in favour of a government subsidized collection of benches and plaques leads me to name the first (and possibly only) ever list of Friday Fools (© 2008 PolicyFrog):
- Dan Vandal
- Grant Nordman
- Mike Pagtakhan
- Jenny Gerbasi
- Russ Wyatt
- Jeff Browaty
- Harvey Smith
Congratulations folks, your commemorative glass etchings and Inuit carvings are in the mail.
Hearing that Mayor Katz has a meeting planned with the Friends of Upper Fort Garry in the next few weeks gives me absolutely no confidence in his position either. At this point I’ll say the odds are 50-50 that he caves and gives his support to the group. His etching remains on stand-by.

I get a little more agrevated every time I see that picture in the FP….
Maybe you could do a monthly “fools” list, kinda like Letterman Top 10, no?
Downtown needs more people, not benches that nobody uses. And let’s be honest: When’s the last time you ever read what a plaque had to say that had more than 2 lines of text on it?
