Mayor Katz issued a news release on February 20th challenging all Winnipeggers to take part in Earth Hour on March 29th. He said that the City would do its part by flicking off the lights at the City Hall campus.
Apparently someone forgot to tell the maintenance staff though, as CTV discovered the lights were left ON in both City Hall and the Administration Building on Saturday night.
I imagine someone is going to be getting an angry call from the Mayor’s Office on Monday morning.

Equally embarrassing is Katz’s decision to give the key to the city to Peter Nygard on the occasion of the opening of his company’s new retail store along Kenaston.
While he’s undoubtedly a successful business person, Nygard is hardly deserving of even a contrived honour like “key to the city.”
The man has sired a bevy of illegitimate children, been accused several times of sexual harassment, has a reputation for running his staff into the ground, and recently lost a case where he was accused of cheating managers out of overtime pay. On top of all that, his company is currently in the process of laying off its final few hundred production staff in the city.
Yet the Mayor thinks we should all look up to this self-aggrandizing buffoon? Cripes, if he’s got the key to the city then I’m throwing on the security chain.
EDIT: Now we can add “tax evader” to the long list of things that make Nygard such a deserving recipient of this honour.
