Well that’s a shock…

After teasing last week that it might abandon the tuition freeze, the Doer government announced this afternoon that it’s extending the freeze for another year.

Wow, who saw that coming? Oh yeah, everyone.

This is textbook Gary Doer. Lower expectations to subterranean levels, then “over deliver” by doing basically nothing.

To be fair, the government has indicated that starting next year tuition will “be permitted to slowly rise to 1999 levels while guarding against rate shock.” Of course this begs the question: why not just proceed with the rate crawl this year?

Is it just to spite one of the loudest critics of the tuition freeze as she leaves her post at the U of M this year?
