Another interesting stat from the recently released census data on commuting patterns: chicks dig the bus.
Okay, maybe they don’t “dig” it, but they certainly use public transit in much larger numbers than males.
- Within Winnipeg, 15.9% of females commute to work on the bus versus just 10.5% of males.
- In the singles-heavy 15-34 year old demographic, 18.8% of females are keeping a regular date with Transit Tom, while only 13.7% of males are tagging along for the ride.
If there were some creative minds at Winnipeg Transit (not that we’ve seen much evidence of that), this could be a potential marketing opportunity.
On the other hand…
Want to meet a guy? Hop on a bike.

Ladies, your knight in shining spandex awaits.
Overall, about 2.2% of males in Winnipeg are risking life and limb (and dignity in the case of the fellas above) by velocommuting on Winnipeg’s bike-unfriendly streets. Female bike riders come in at less than 1% of all commutes.
