About those MPI rebates

How much does it cost MPI to administer and mail out rebate cheques, and how much paper waste is generated?

Wouldn’t it be easier to just reduce everyone’s insurance next year instead? Yes, I realize that not every single vehicle owner is going to renew their insurance next year, but it would capture ~95% of them, and be a lot more efficient.

If this couldn’t be done for some bureaucratic reason, then how about just knocking some money off my next time payment instead of mailing me the cheque?

This is common sense folks, not rocket science.

  1. But Frog…..you can’t win more votes that way !!

  2. True, just like the education property tax credit. It’s vote buying.

  3. The Public Utilities Board ordered cheques to be issued. It was not MPI’s decision to do it this way.

  4. @Clyde – Fair point. I realize this isn’t MPI’s decision, I was just griping about the process in general. However, I should point out that the PUB is appointed by the provincial government.
