My reaction to the NDP backing down on certain clauses of Bill 37: Good, now can we move on to something that people actually care about?
This was one of those issues where everyone inside the Leg was plotting, scheming and playing ridiculous games, while those outside the Leg only heard the sounds of lawnmowers and fishing reels.
I’m not saying that election finance and communication are trivial issues, but this was all blown a little out of proportion. And while the legislation might have “stirred a hornet’s nest of anger from the core critics of the NDP“, this retreat has more to do with summer vacation schedules than any great worry about public perception.
That being said, it is interesting to note this is one of those rare occasions where action from the Tories (in this case the filibustering, not the organized opposition) has actually caused the Doer government to change its course slightly. We haven’t seen much of that in the past nine years.

Hopefully we see more of this kind of thing, but they (the Tories) need to pick their battles wisely.
