Global Winnipeg will officially make the move to its new studios on the 30th floor of Canwest Place starting on Thursday. The station has been operating out of a renovated old Safeway store on St. Mary’s Road since Izzy Asper first brought it to town (relocated from Pembina, ND) in the mid-seventies. With the move, all four of Winnipeg’s big broadcasters (Global, CTV, CBC, City) will now be based downtown.
Isn’t it time for the newspapers to follow suit, and bring their news operations downtown too?

Yes.
Totally off topic here Mr. Frog, but I was wondering if you being an all around expert on civic issues might shed some light on this.
Two weeks ago the the Free Press reported that Brenda Leipsac the deupty mayor was very ill and had taken a leave, now I hear from people in city hall that she actually has a terminal illness which is horrible news for her and her family, but I was just wondering what happens if she goes from a leave to resigning? Does the seat stay open until 2010? Or does Katz pick a replacement or is there an election?
@Brodie – That would be terrible. In the event that a Council member resigns his or her seat, a by-election would be held to pick someone to serve out the remainder of the term.
