Boundary name game

Haven’t had time to digest the potential impact on seat counts yet, but the final Boundaries Commission report does have plenty of new names in it:

  • Minnedosa-Russell becomes Riding Mountain
  • Turtle Mountain becomes Spruce Woods
  • Rupertsland becomes Kewatinook
  • Dauphin-Roblin is now just Dauphin
  • Carman-Pembina becomes Midland
  • Tache becomes Dawson Trail
  • Inkster becomes Tyndall Park
  • Wellington becomes Logan
  • Pembina-Jubilee becomes Fort Garry-Riverview
  • Fort Garry becomes Fort Richmond

h/t to the Hack.

  1. Minnedosa-Russell, Tache, Pembina-Jubilee and Carman-Pembina never existed as constituencies except in the interim 2008 boundary report.

  2. @yellowsnow – Yes, I realize that. I was comparing the “proposed” to the “final.” Compared to existing, I guess you could say:

    – Minnedosa and Russell become Riding Mountain
    – Dawson Trail is created
    – Lord Roberts and Fort Garry become Fort-Garry Riverview and Fort Richmond
    – Carman and Pembina become Midland and Morden-Winkler

  3. @ PolicyFrog – I knew that you knew. I just think it makes more sense to compare the existing to the final. I like the name changes. BTW, Rusell becomes Riding Mountain and Ste. Rose is now Agassiz.

  4. Oh yes, forgot about Agassiz, which was in the proposed changes. And I guess it would be more fair to say that Minnedosa gets merged into several surrounding constituencies.

  5. Hello from exotic Logan! I now find myself in The urban riding. Should be interesting to see if we even get an incumbent and how politics here will play out. I noted long ago that this is a severe change from the original Wellington riding and, moreover, that the numbers suggest an urban takeover for that location. This should be a most interesting riding and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it go one of three ways.

Merry Christmas to the Frog and all your comment readers!
