Average City beat me to this, but I have to call complete BS on Cindy Tugwell of Heritage Winnipeg, who told CBC TV today that she wasn’t aware that 160 166 Rosyln Road (Dennistoun House) faced delisting at EPC today.
There have been four different articles about this house in the Freep in the past 10 days, including one just this morning. It was discussed by the Historical Buildings Committee. It was discussed at Property & Development. It’s been on the EPC agenda for several days. Heritage Winnipeg has a bloody City Councillor on its board.
Either you’re full of it, or incompetent. Which do you prefer?
If she insists she didn’t know, then she should go.
Well, if it helps, Heritage Winnipeg does pay attention when local blogs criticize them…
Could it be politics? Citing ignorance while a Heritage Building loses status instead of admitting what’s really going on? Hmmmmmmmmm….
I tried to make a wisecrack about this, but found I was too disgusted to even finish it. But putting Heritage Winnipeg’s issues aside, it’s the right decision. The house seems to be a legit heritage building, but hardly a unique example.
The good news is that it it’s being knocked over to add significant new density to a site located close to grocery stores and transit, just outside downtown. In other words, while this might be a good project for the corner of the parking lot at Assiniboine and Main, this is not so bad an alternative…
Nice to see a big house being knocked down for a condo complex. We need more density in this city.
full of it, definitely
